Moviehole.net Exclusive Interview
Posted by Ivan on 19 Apr 2006 ... Comments: (2)
News & Articles icon Clint Morris from Moviehole.net interviewed Michelle a couple of days ago. Michelle talks about Australia, MI3, her cut scenes from Constantine and Syriana, her new projects and much more. Here are the best parts:

- Do I take it that your character is going to be somewhat of a damsel-in-distress?
Well…. there is a point in which she is threatened, Yes, but this is the thing, J.J really likes strong female characters. So I’m not entirely the damsel in distress, no. As a woman in Hollywood, you don’t always want to be that damsel in distress or that victim, and thankfully he writes really strong, independent, women.

- I understand J.J cast you in “Mission: Impossible 3”, because he saw your audition tape for “Constantine”. Thing is, weren’t you cut out of that movie?
Yeah! Ironic, huh? But yeah, he saw my audition tape, and called up out of the blue and asked to have a meeting. He wanted me to audition with Tom. I met Tom on the set of “War of the Worlds”, so not only was I meeting Tom, I was meeting Steven Spielberg! I just thought ‘What am I doing here?!’

- Your cut scene from “Constantine”, which is on the DVD, is great!
Yeah. We did some reshoots, tried to make some stuff work, but Francis [Lawrence, the director] was confident we couldn’t work it in. If I had been cut for my performance, on the other hand, I’d be devastated, I wouldn’t even be able to sit and talk to you about it right now.

- You were also cut from “Syriana” too?
You are up with it! True, yes. There were so many storylines and I knew that they weren’t going to cut Matt Damon’s storyline, or George Clooney’s storyline….I was like, alright, here I go again! (Laughs). But George and Steven [producer, Soderbergh] wrote me a nice letter saying they’ll pass my name around town. All I said, since I’d already gotten paid for it, was ‘don’t take the cheque back!!’ (Laughs)

- Tell them you’re owed a role in “Ocean’s Thirteen” now! That starts filming in July.
Well, exactly….Steven was like ‘Yeah, don’t worry, we’ll pass your name around Hollywood’. And he has actually, so that was good of him.

- Your next film is the directorial debut of Ben Affleck. Is it any good?
Yes. It’s called “Gone Baby Gone”, is directed by Ben, and is based on a book by Dennis Lehane. It’s going to be set in Boston and will star Casey Affleck and Ed Harris. I play a private investigator….kinda like a low-rate private investigator and something really serious happens in South Boston. There are four books in the series, I think. I don’t know where “Gone, Baby, Gone” comes into that series [though]. I’ve got them all, but I don’t know that it’s the first or the second.

Tom Cruise will celebrate the U.S. premiere of the highly-anticipated Mission: Impossible III on May 3 at the Tribeca Film Festival with a full day of screenings and events throughout Manhattan as part of "Mission: NYC." Bringing the film and Cruise directly to fans and filmgoers, "Mission: NYC" kicks off with Cruise appearing live on TRL in Times Square and culminates nearly six hours later with the U.S. premiere of the film at the Festival.

Michelle Monaghan talks M:I-3
Posted by Ivan on 10 Apr 2006 ... Comments: (0)
News & Articles icon The Australian News interviewed Michelle who's in australia promoting her latest movie Mission: Impossible III. This is what she has to say about her co-stars Tom Cruise and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Monaghan said Cruise - who has produced all three Mission films - was "a consummate professional" on the set.

As was Hoffman, who won an Oscar last month for his performance in the biopic Capote. Monaghan said he was so chilling as the villain, she was still scared when the cameras stopped rolling.

"He couldn't be a nicer fellow, he's such a good guy and he's so funny," Monaghan said of Hoffman.

"But the minute I heard 'action' and he was in character, he gave me goosebumps - I didn't have to act, I was honestly pretty frightened.

"Then I'd hear 'cut' and he'd be back to being himself and would be normal and say things like 'So what are you going to do for lunch?'."

Monaghan's best Holiday
Posted by Ivan on 10 Apr 2006 ... Comments: (0)
News & Articles icon NineMSN knows Michelle's reaction when she discovered that she was cast in Mission: Impossible III. You really need to read below!

Monaghan and a relieved White continued walking, but that was when Abrams, the creator of the hit TV shows Lost and Alias, called. A few days earlier in Los Angeles, Monaghan had auditioned with Cruise for the role of his love interest in the action film.

"He said 'Michelle it's JJ. So, do you think you really want to be a part of Mission: Impossible III?'," Monaghan recalled.

"I was like 'Yeah'.

"He said 'Great, because Tom and I think you are going to be amazing and we're going to have a ball making it'.

"I started to cry because I'm so dramatic and JJ said 'Don't cry about it'.

"I felt like such an idiot."

* (When they say "White" they mean Pete White, Michelle's husband).
