Katie Holmes drew a lot of attention yesterday in regards to talk that she
would potentially star with her current beau Tom Cruise in the third "Mission:
Impossible."
Now, famed columnist Liz Smith has come up with another name - "forget Lindsay
Lohan, Scarlett Johansson -- and even Katie Holmes. Tom's "Mission
Impossible III" co-star will be Michelle Monaghan. Filming starts in Italy,
July 18th". A former "Boston Public" star, Monaghan has appeared in such films
as "The Bourne Supremacy", "It Runs in the Family", "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang"
and the upcoming "Syriana" and "Mr. & Mrs. Smith".
Meanwhile, Irish interview program The Late Late Show on RTE had English spunk
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers on who apparently said he's going to be in "Mission
Impossible 3" with Cruise.
Rhys-Meyers shot to fame with an acclaimed performance in "Velvet Goldmine"
and has a bit of a renaissance of late with starring turns in "Vanity Fair",
"Alexander" and most recently played Elvis Presley in the much talked about
mini-series.

MAY 23, 2005 • New movie for Michelle!!!
GOOD NEWS guys! Michelle is part of a new movie and
the shooting is set to start in Caserta, Italy on July 18th. Wanna know
which movie I'm talking about? MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3!!!
Yeah, that's right. A reliable source told me this some time ago but there's
not need to hide it anymore since we know it should be confirmed this week,
just like Annie posted at
TomCruiseFan.com. Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames are still part of the cast
but it seems like Scarlett Johansson and Carrie Ann Moss won't come back to
the project. Apparently Keri Russell and Lindsay Lohan won't be in the movie
either although their names were mentioned in the past.
Michelle, if you read this (and I know you do) CONGRATULATIONS. You worth it,
girl! My work hasn't ended here. It just started. GOOD LUCK!

Harmony’s attempts to unravel the fate of her missing kid sister intersect
with the murder mystery that Perry and Harry are trying to solve. One of
this year’s next big things, Monaghan will also be seen alongside Charlize
Theron and Sissy Spacek in another Warner project, Kiwi director Niki Caro’s
upcoming sexual harrassment drama, provisionally titled Class Action. On the
evidence of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the former TV star can certainly hold down a
comic-romantic lead, and the mixture of fatale and spoof in her performance
suggest that she could stray with equal ease into David Lynch or Woody Allen
territory.

MAY 14, 2005 • Out of competition: "Kiss Kiss,
Bang Bang" by Shane Black
OUT OF COMPETITION: "KISS KISS, BANG, BANG" BY
SHANE BLACK
Source:
Cannes Film Festival
This is Shane Black's first directorial endeavor and first
visit to Cannes. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, being presented in the Official
Selection out of competition, is the much awaited crime-comedy by the
screenwriter of such memorable action films as Lethal Weapon, The
Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight. Set in Los Angeles, it
follows a fugitive thief (Robert Downey Jr.) who is pretending to be an actor,
a cynical and hard-boiled private investigator (Val Kilmer), and an actress
who is trying to make it as a star (Michelle Monaghan), who accidentally find
themselves involved in a bizarre murder scheme.
With its combination of offbeat jokes and criminal intrigue, this film is, in
the honest words of its director, "a direct homage to detective stories" which
he adored in childhood. "There have been very few contemporary interpretations
of the great L.A. private eye tradition; what I strived for was a movie that
walks the line between something that takes itself seriously enough to be
suspenseful but is playful enough to be entertaining and fresh."

Bang
PRESS CONFERENCE: KISS KISS, BANG BANG
Source:
Cannes Film Festival
Screening out of competition at midnight this evening, the
Official Selection film Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang was presented to the press
this afternoon. In attendance at the press conference was director Shane Black,
producer Joel Silver, along with actors Robert Downey Jr., Val Kilmer and
Michelle Monaghan. Excerpts:
Shane Black on the screenplay and interpretations by Kilmer and Downey: “I
think these guys were smart enough to stick to a blueprint. It's like monkey
bars, they're very rigid, but actually within them there's a lot of space to
move around. You can manoeuvre yourself within. But we were all serving the
master and the master was the movie I had brought to them. And I said, ‘help
me make a film that produces this end result'. It was a team effort pretty
much directed towards the exact same end goal with laser like precision.”
Michelle Monaghan on the script: “He wrote a very exciting script for any
actor. I think it is important to say that Shane trusted us totally. He gave
us amazing dialogue and within that we were able to have so much fun with it.”
Robert Downey Jr on the script: In a movie like this when the script is strong,
you have to potentially crank it up even more because you don't want to rest
on your laurels.”
Joel Silver on why it is important to bring the film to Cannes: “The Cannes
Festival that revels in the magic of movies is the wonder of moviemaking and
that's the really important aspect of our picture. It has a lot of references
and deals with the L.A. genre detective, kind of film noir and we thought
people would really respond to it at the Cannes Festival, that it could
provide it with the buzz and excitement the movie needs and so far it has
worked that way. We want to release the movie sometime in the fall, but this
is the first time we have showed the movie to anybody. All movies are a gamble,
but we just thought that we had something here.”
Shane Black on the origin of the title: “ ‘Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' was first
coined by the Japanese press at the height of Bond mania in the 60s and I had
always thought Ian Fleming had written ‘Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' as one of the
chapter titles in his book or something, because it sounded so much like
Fleming, but it wasn't. It was just this phrase that came out of Tokyo. I
liked it so much because it so clearly represented what this film is.”
Shane Black on Raymond Chandler: “I had a love affair with Chandler, I've had
a love affair with Los Angeles. Chandler manages somehow to distil an
amazingly bittersweet, melancholy, romantic sense to Los Angeles.
